ASSESSMENT AND INTRODUCTION SESSIONS
Before becoming a member of Chichester Canoe Club, you will need to have completed either our Experienced Paddler Assessment or Inexperienced Paddler Introduction Session. You may paddle in two sessions before becoming a member. The sessions run through the summer season at the Hunston end of Chichester Canal. During the winter months we use our pool sessions at Havant: you need to book a non-member pool session and boat hire. Sessions normally last about 1.5/2 hours. We encourage members to join PADDLEUK for access to waterways covered by membership and to access information on further training and improving skills.
Experienced Paddler Assessments
Paddlers should have undertaken a British Canoeing/PaddleUK course or equivalent and be able to demonstrate wet exits, rescues, and paddling experience. Experienced paddlers can sign up for a Wednesday paddling session at Hunston on the Chichester Canal (book via WebCollect) where a coach will be available to confirm that you are safe to join further sessions. There is a £10 charge for this session – which will be taken off your joining fee if you become a member within a month. Kayak hire is available but needs to be pre-booked.
Inexperienced Paddler Introductory Session
These sessions provide you with the fundamentals of paddling and ensure you are equipped with the water safety knowledge to paddle at our club (book via WebCollect). Depending on your previous experience we offer this introduction over one or two sessions. The fees are:
£27.50 for people who do not have their own equipment and includes:
- Your session fee
- Use of equipment, including kayak and buoyancy aid
- Coaching from a qualified coach
£20 for people who have their own equipment
Once you have completed your Inexperienced Paddler Introductory Session and been passed by our coaches, you will receive a £10 discount off the full year membership fee if you become a member within a month. Please note that the discount does not apply if the Introductory Session has taken place in the pool.
