ASSESSMENT AND INTRODUCTION SESSIONS
Everyone is welcome to become a member of Chichester Canoe Club. If you’d like to start with a toe in (on!) the water after your introductory session/assessment, we offer two free paddling sessions before you become a member.
The joining steps are very simple:
(1) complete either our Experienced Paddler Assessment or Inexperienced Paddler Introductory Session
(2) navigate to the WebCollect “membership” page
(3) add the relevant membership category to your basket and proceed to checkout.
You’ll see we mention WebCollect quite often! It’s the platform which hosts our club events, and manages membership, bookings and payments. Before you make your first booking with CCC, you’ll create a WebCollect account which helps keep track of your bookings, payments etc. When you want to see what events are taking place, simply log into WebCollect, then book and pay for your chosen event, or your membership.
We tell you more about using WebCollect and making bookings, below.
Introductory Sessions/Assessments
During the summer, these sessions run outdoors.
During the winter months we use our swimming pool sessions at Havant’s Horizon Leisure Centre – to join these for an introductory session/assessment, book a “non-member pool session” and boat hire (see below). Sessions normally last 1.5-2 hours.
Experienced Paddler Assessments
Paddlers should have undertaken a British Canoeing/PaddleUK course or equivalent and be able to demonstrate wet exits, rescues, and paddling experience. Please ‘Contact Us’ so we can discuss your qualifications/experience and arrange an assessment with one of our coaches (canal near Hunston/ Dell Quay harbour/swimming pool). There is a £10 charge for your assessment. Kayak hire is available – remember to book this.
Once you have been passed by our coaches, you can become a member. If your assessment was at the canal/harbour and you become a member within a month, you’ll receive £10 off your joining fee.
Inexperienced Paddler Introductory Session
This session provides you with the fundamentals of paddling and ensure you are equipped with the water safety knowledge to paddle at our club, with opportunities to continue coaching in regular paddling sessions. Summer sessions are held at the Hunston end of the Chichester canal, and winter sessions at Havant’s Horizon Leisure Centre’s swimming pool. The fees are:
£28.50 if you do not have your own equipment and includes:
- Your session fee
- Coaching from a qualified coach
- Use of equipment, including kayak and buoyancy aid
£21 if you have your own equipment (so don’t need the items at 3 on the list above)
Once you have completed your Inexperienced Paddler Introductory Session(s) and been passed by our coaches, you’re all set to become a member. If your introductory session was at the canal and you join within a month, you will receive £10 off your joining fee.
We encourage members to join PaddleUK for access to waterways covered by membership, and to access information on further training and improving skills
